  With Toluca and Pachuca both winning on Tuesday night in the Leagues Cup, it’s now official: three of Liga MX’s traditional “big four” clubs – América, Chivas, and Cruz Azul – have been eliminated, along with Monterrey.

  The tournament has taken a shocking turn for Mexican football, as several top contenders are out before even completing the group stage.

  Suggesting ahead of the tournament that América, Chivas, Cruz Azul and Rayados would all be knocked out before their final group matches would have been unthinkable – yet here we are.   And the drama isn’t over. With matches still to be played, clubs such as FC Juárez and Necaxa remain in contention, while Tigres and Pachuca – currently in qualifying positions – are not guaranteed to advance.
